Training Tips

Improve Your Sprint-Drag-Carry Score

Transitions are where time is won or lost. Practice the pivot at each cone so you are already accelerating before you fully change direction, wasted steps add seconds.

On the drag, keep your hips low and drive through your heels like a sled push. Pulling from an upright position is significantly slower and harder.

During the lateral shuffle, keep your feet from crossing and your knees bent. Crossed feet cause stumbles that add 2–4 seconds of recovery time.

Train the specific energy system: the SDC is a ~90-second maximal effort. Include 90-second all-out intervals in training (shuttle runs, sled work, rowing) at least twice per week.

Practice the carry phase grip. The two 40-pound kettlebells are the heaviest load in the SDC. Farmers carry practice with similar weight will prevent grip failure mid-event.

FAQ

Sprint-Drag-Carry Frequently Asked Questions

What is the layout of the Sprint-Drag-Carry course?+
The SDC is a 5-phase shuttle over 50 meters total (25 meters out and back). The phases in order are: sprint, drag (90-lb sled), lateral shuffle, carry (two 40-lb kettlebells), and sprint. Each phase is 25 meters.
What is the minimum passing time for the ACFT SDC?+
2:12 (2 minutes and 12 seconds, or 132 seconds) earns exactly 60 points. Times slower than 2:12 result in a failing score. The fastest possible score (100 points) requires 1:33 or faster.
How heavy is the sled in the drag event?+
The sled weighs 90 pounds. You must drag it backward (facing the start line) using a strap for the full 25-meter length.
What happens if I knock over a cone during the SDC?+
You must reset the cone before continuing. This is a rules violation and the time cost is usually 3–6 seconds. Practice your transitions carefully to avoid cone contact.
Does the SDC time include all 5 phases?+
Yes. The clock starts at the beginning of the sprint and stops when you cross the finish line after the final sprint. All 5 phases must be completed in sequence.
